As a former Agony Aunt for several major women’s magazines, including Company for ten years, Donna also has a wealth of knowledge about sex and relationship. She was also an advisor to Parents magazine, giving advice to parents on children aged under five. Modern men are nearly three times more likely to cry in public than their fathers’ generation, according to new research. Donna Dawson, who led the survey of 2000 Britons, said that modern men face much less social pressure than their fathers did to maintain their composure in public.

Life lessons EVERY parent should teach their children revealed
Remembering to say please and thank you is the most important life lesson we can teach our children, according to 80 per cent of the nation’s parents. A poll of things every parent should in still in their child reveals that respecting your elders was voted second (75 percent) while having good table manners came third (73 percent).
Psychologist Donna Dawson, who was involved in the study said: ‘It is interesting that the top three things on the parental teaching list are all to do with ‘behaviour’, and how the child ‘appears’ to others.
‘Parents are clearly worried that their children will reflect badly on them. And this is just part of the anxiety that parents feel generally.

Why do people get married after having children?
Labour leader Ed Miliband and his long-term partner Justine Thornton are due to get married. They already have two children, so why get hitched? It’s a commitment many people make without getting married. But some then go on to tie the knot, like Ed Miliband and his partner of six years, Justine Thornton.
So why do it? Psychologist Donna Dawson, who has specialised in sex and relationships, says it is often about making a public statement.

Drinkaware Survey
A 2011 survey by Drinkaware found that 61% of adults in the UK chose to turn to alcohol as a means of relieving stress at the end of a busy day. The alcohol awareness charity asked Donna to provide her rationale behind this behavioural practice. A large number of online news organisations chose to feature the results of this survey and Donna’s response.
Drinkaware is an independent charity which aims to reduce alcohol-related harm by helping people make better choices about their drinking. It is funded by unrestricted voluntary donations from more than 130 organisations. These include UK alcohol producers, retailers, supermarkets, venues, restaurant groups and sports associations.

Cinema seats get to the bottom of you
For decades it has been the dark and dusty preserve of sneaky young lovers hoping for a moment of isolation from a prying world. But these days the back row of the cinema is as likely to be filled with control-freak rebels who crave anonymity.
Behavioural psychologist Dr Donna Dawson has discovered that a person’s choice of cinema seat says more about them than they realise. She picked out four areas – front row, back row, middle and aisle – and identified the personality traits of the people who always sit in them. Her research was commissioned by the Odeon group, which was running an experiment allowing people to book specific seats at certain cinemas over the Internet.
